Programs
At University of Portland, community leaders judge Business Week or Investing Week and assist with mock interviews.
Business Week
At YEBW, students spend the week running through business simulations and developing original business products to present at the end of the week. They form companies, step into management roles and develop presentations for a panel of judges posing as shareholders, stockholders or potential investors.
In the morning, Business Week students conduct business simulation (BizSim) presentations. All teams compete on a common product and show their performance over the course of 12 quarters. Judges pose as shareholders.
In the afternoon, Business Week students conduct original product presentations. All teams select a unique product and share their business plans. Judges pose as potential investors.
Investing Week
In the second-year program, Investing Week, students break into smaller groups to compete in a stock portfolio competition and do a deeper exploration of business simulation (BizSim). Throughout the week, they learn about investing fundamentals, terminology and analysis. On judging day, they act as junior investors and present recommendations to buy, sell or hold a stock to a panel of judges.
Mock Interviews
After each judging session, judges and students participate in mock job interviews. Students get to practice interview skills and making positive first impressions. Judges pose as potential employers and hiring managers, with sample interview questions provided by YEBW. As a mock interviewer, you provide students with hiring feedback, specifically on what they did well and how they can improve.
