YEBW has always been a volunteer-led initiative to educate Oregon youth in business... Behind the tribe of dedicated volunteers is a small staff that builds the program throughout the year—bringing hundreds of students, alumni, business community professionals and partners together for four life-changing weeks over the summer.
All team members share a personal connection with YEBW...
MARK TAKEHARA, executive director
At YEBW: Mark oversees all aspects of YEBW operations and strategy, including community partnerships and staff development. As an advocate for youth education and equity, Mark believes all students should have the opportunity to attend YEBW.
Background: Most recently, Mark was the President of Hope Chinese Charter School—named ‘#1 Charter School’ in the state of Oregon and ‘Top Public Elementary School’ by niche.com and the Portland Business Journal. Previously, he served in executive roles with national youth organizations: Big Brothers Big Sisters and Boys & Girls Clubs. He also holds a BA in Business Administration from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of California-Riverside.
kyle kavas, communications and volunteer relations DIRECTOR

Background: Beyond YEBW, Kyle has held mar-com leadership roles at Better Business Bureau, Oregon Public Broadcasting and her own venture Oregon Public Relations. He attended YEBW as a student in 2012 and 2013, then returned as an Intern in 2014 and 2016. His cousin also became a student, thanks to his referral.
