How can my student get to the Young Entrepreneurs Business Week program?
Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the university. Carpooling is encouraged. If students are arriving by bus or plane, please contact our office at 503.330.5012 to make arrangements for them to be picked up.

How are the student monitored?
First and foremost we require every student to sign a code of conduct. Consequences of breaking any of our policies, is grounds for being sent home and will limit a student’s ability to attend our other programs. Between company meetings, break out sessions and large group general assemblies during the day, the students are kept very busy. It is the role of the Company Advisor (business professional from the community) to be in close communication with YEBW staff and notify us immediately if a student does not show up to meetings on time. This is typically not a problem as the whole company suffers performance points if members are tardy. In the evening, the students are monitored and kept entertained by hired residence hall staff, who are screened, interviewed and trained by the University and us. We want a student’s experience on campus to be inspirational, educational and most of all safe. As the parent or guardian we do ask that if there are any behavior concerns we should be made aware of that you speak with personally with our Executive Director. Thank you for entrusting your student with us for what will be one of the most incredible weeks of their life.

What about the food?
The food at University of Portland is done by Bon Appetite Catering…thus the food is excellent in taste and variety. Vegetarian meals are always available. If your student has significant allergies or a special diet, we will happily put you in contact with a member of the Bon Appetite Management Team.

Who do we make the check out to for the $295 registration fee?
Please make checks payable to SWU.

Is there a certain grade point average in order to attend the program?
NO. It is the organizations belief that ALL students should have the opportunity to attend the program and learn about value based entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Students do need to understand that this a program which requires openness to learn and grow. We use GPA scores merely as a tracking tool for those students who return year after year.

What is their daily schedule?
The program is vigorous and extremely busy. There is an hour lunch break, sometimes a working lunch...just like “REAL LIFE,” an afternoon and evening break/free time every day.

What time can I pick my son/daughter up?
The program will end on Saturday afternoon with a graduation ceremony from 1:00 – 3:00pm. Parents are encouraged to attend. Once the graduation is completed and students have properly checked out with their advisor and our staff, they are free to go.

Are the kids divided up by age group or are they combined together?
The students form small companies/groups and all age groups are mixed together. We intentionally try to put students who do not know each other in the same company, so that students open up to new ideas.
